Edital Arte Patrimônio 2009, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The book 2005 - 510117385-5, made in between 2008 and 2009, in two versions ('book of artist' and offset with a print run of 500 copies) contains the reproductions of the verses of 101 of the more than 800 stolen photographs of the Biblioteca Nacional,in Rio de Janeiro, in 2005, returned over 4 years. Most of the stolen photographs of the Iconography Division collection belonged to the D. Thereza Christina Maria Collection, named for the world-renowned private library of the emperor D. Pedro II and donated by the Fundação Biblioteca Nacional at the end of the 19th century.

The book that takes as a title the number of criminal proceedings instituted by the Federal Police at the time of the robbery only allows the 'reader/spectator' to 'recognize' the images by the name of the photographer and by the textual descriptions of the subtitles. Hiding the photographic images and only showing the back of the paper is a way of respecting the craft and the 'gaze' of the photographer and especially his legacy of author, object of desire and theft, at the same time that puts the focus of the book in the swipe of an important collection and not only in photography. Hide the image to reveal the theft of the patrimony.
