Waiting for... [Série Turista Transcendental]

Gogô e Didi são dois carros estacionados numa rua qualquer da maior metrópole africana, assistindo ao longo desfilar de seres automóveis — humanos, animais e manufaturados —, de todos os tipos e tamanhos, diante de seus faróis. Eles usam o Código Morse para se comunicar através de suas buzinas. Eles não sabem que estão sendo observados, nem que há alguém perto o suficiente para ouvi-los e com domínio da linguagem para compreender e transcodificar o que dizem. Tal como Mr. Punch & Judy, esses dois velhos amigos matam o tempo se provocando, na esperança, talvez, de que alguém pare e preste atenção à sua contenda. Porém, a espera é inútil pois há buzinas demais para que alguma delas faça algum sentido no caos urbano. Enquanto esperam, Gogô se espelha na gentileza* de Tony Allen e Didi encarna o africano original* de Fela Kuti. Ambos parecem discordar dos estilos de vida mas compartilham a mesma clarividência sobre a condição africana e um profundo desprezo pela herança de escravidão e colonialismo. A conversa entre eles, entretanto, não os leva a lugar nenhum.

Waiting for... [Série Turista Transcendental]

Gogo and Didi are two cars parked on a random street in the largest African metropolis, watching alongside  a parade of automotive entities — human, animal and manufactured — of all types and sizes as they pass in front of their headlights. They use Morse code to communicate through their honks. They don’t know they are being watched. Neither that there is someone close enough to hear them, with language knowledge to understand and transcode what they say. Like Mr. Punch & Judy, these two old friends pass time provoking each other, perhaps hoping that someone stops and pays attention to their dispute. However, the wait is useless because there is too much honking for any of them to make any sense in the urban chaos. While waiting, Gogo reflects the kindness without weakness of Tony Allen and Didi embodies Fela Kuti’s Africa man original. Both seem to disagree with each other’s lifestyle but they share the same vision on the African condition and a profound contempt for the heritage of slavery and colonialism. The conversation between them, meanwhile, leads to nowhere.
